Machine Sewing Hexies!
I was in my happy place yesterday, sitting at my BERNINA and stitching lovely curved hexies! And I had the perfect color of Aurifil to match - yay!
Hubby and I walked on the lot we are considering for our new home. I think it will work, though after that 30 minutes I ended up with a major allergy attack. Ugh! Hubby spent most of the afternoon under the house in the crawl space, taking care of some minor issues that were revealed in the inspection. ALL DONE!
Last night we had a date night. Dinner at one of our favorites, BurgerFi! Then on to Walmart to purchase moving boxes. This move is really happening! You know, the entire month our house was on the market I kept repeating, "We're not going to build! We're not going to build!" I have to say that I have finally come to embrace the idea. We've been planning the new home and we're going to have exactly what we want and need. It will definitely be worth the wait.

Instagram, Anyone? AND A SALE ON RULERS!
So I'm very prolific at blogging. :) And I'm not too shabby at posting on Facebook. But Instagram? I've not been doing great at this.
Yesterday I made a new friend - sold her my extra Featherweight - and she put me in my place (nicely) about my lack of Instagram activity. She's totally right! I need to get with the Instagram program! I promised her I'd post there last night and I DID! And so, thanks to Hollie, I'll be much more visible on Instagram - find me at hexie_love!
Now, what you've been waiting for! I'm having a 2 week sale on my Hexie Love Curved Hexagon Ruler!!!! To get $4.00 off, use the coupon code MOVING. Yes, I want to move as little inventory as possible! Sale is only good until February 15!
Above is one of the curved hexagons I stitched yesterday. Happy Dance!

Let's Sew!!!
Let's get this party started! I have a lovely pile of baggies full of basted hexies ready to stitch together. And that's exactly what I'll be doing this morning. Fun!!!
And this afternoon? More bookkeeping. Yup. It's got to be done!
I'll say something good about this upcoming move: it's lighting a fire under me to get things done!
So when you know you'll be moving soon, one of things you try to do is eat up the food in your freezer and pantry. So last night I shopped in the freezer and found frozen ravioli and garlic bread. AND there was a jar of spaghetti sauce in the pantry. SCORE! Dinner in minutes and got rid of some stuff. There will be some creative meal planning going on around here in the next few weeks.

Sorry, No Picture
I really hate to post here without a picture. But I don't have one today. Oh well...
I spent the morning in my car with the dogs...more than 3 hours.... while our home was thoroughly inspected, up and down and all around. I made use of the time by reading, catching up on some e-mails, and drinking my morning coffee. Cooper slept in the back seat (good boy!) and Mickey worried me to death in the front seat, as usual. He wanted in my lap. He wanted out of my lap. He wanted this and that and the other! Now that we are back home, Mickey is sound asleep.
I'm not sure when we'll hear if the house passes it's test, but hopefully soon. Meanwhile, I'll keep forging ahead, sewing and writing and working on my bookkeeping. I'm hoping to stitch hexies together later today!
Lot's of hexie love to you all today!!!

Curved Hexie Valentine Mug Rug
We had a little private lesson yesterday...I taught a friend to make curved hexies. And didn't she do a great job? She's making a valentine mug rug once she basted several more of these.
As for me? I finished basting all the hexies I had prepared. Yippee! Today I'll be laying them out, getting ready to stitch them all together.
Also on the list - computer work! I owe a few people emails - I promise I'll get to that this morning. And...still some bookkeeping to do. I just need to DO IT!!!
Just realized the home inspection is TOMORROW! (Thought it was Friday...) And that means a bit of house cleaning today.
Sounds like a full day, doesn't it? But first I need coffee....

And More Basting...
This is the next set ready for basting later today. I got back from Mississippi last night, tired and ready to sleep. Now, back to work today!!!
I have computer work to do, basting, and some move related stuff. We have now transported 3 trailer and car loads to the lake - lawn mowers, tools, etc. These are things we don't want to put in storage. We are waiting to begin packing boxes for storage until the buyers' home inspection is done and their small contingency is lifted - about a week until these things happen. Until then I'll keep sorting through drawers and cabinets, getting rid of as much as I can. This will make packing much easier.
And so, it will be a busy day! But a good one!

Good Morning From...Mississippi!
Yes, we are in Jackson, Mississippi! I'll be at the hotel doing my thing (basting and computer work) while Daughter 2 does her thing. We had a good drive, except that I missed a turn and cost us an extra 45 minutes of driving. Lesson learned: even if you THINK you know where you're going, always turn on the GPS!
I basted this hexie last night - the colors are way off in the photo. The dark is navy and the green is really blue. Either way, I love this one!
Here's a photo of the fountain at our house just to prove that it HAS been very COLD way down south in our neck of the woods. Burrrr....
And here's last night's sunset here in Jackson.
Have a wonderful Monday!!!

Ready to BASTE!
I've got baggies packed full of curved hexie pieces ready to baste. And why are they packed? I'm off for a quick overnighter with Daughter 2. I'm going with her to her first residency interview - it's a long drive, so we can take turns. I'm also taking along my computer and business files - hope to get caught up on Quick Books while she's in her interviews.
Our power was off for a couple of hours yesterday am - not bad, especially compared to what many people (maybe you?) are experiencing with Snowmageddon. I spent the morning going through my bathroom cabinets, throwing away most of what I found. It's amazing how much we accumulate over time. I also sorted through all my costume jewelry - bagged up a lot to donate to a charity. The good news - I found a ring that had been lost for about 10 years!!! I thought it was gone for good!
Hubby spent the day doing the same in the garage, packing up tools.
In the afternoon I cut fabric for the pile of hexies seen above. AND I finished hemming the sequined gown for my daughter. DONE! I do love a productive day!
Gotta run! The tank is filled (thanks to hubby) and my bag is packed...

Work and Play Day!
Today I'll make time for both work and play. Of course, my work IS play!
I plan to prepare lots of curved hexies! That will be the best part of my day...
I HAVE to work on some computer and paperwork FIRST! And then I can play with hexies.
We had a fun guild meeting last night. Excited for the year to come with my friends. We had a new visitor - from Germany! I sat beside her and she is very talented. Hope she comes back.
Our meetings yesterday (builder and moving/storage) went well. The good news about all this is that houses are built FAST around here. I'm looking forward to the future!

Let's Get Quilty!
As you may remember, Quilty Box is now a sponsor of Hexie Love! I've been so busy that I've decided to extend the deadline for winning a Quilty Box - you have until January 30 to buy the Jan/Feb issue of Hexie Love (only $5.00!) to be entered in the drawing.
Today I'll be shipping off more Curved Hexagon Rulers! Some are going overseas! Spreading the Hexie Love around the world....
Today is a big and busy day around here. This afternoon we're meeting with a home builder. A moving and storage company is coming to give us an estimate. And quilt guild is tonight!
Yesterday I took some time to start gathering some of my quilting supplies that need to stay with me at our interim home. I piled them on a bed, and just this simple task made me feel better about everything. I realized that some of my supplies that I might need are already at our local storage unit, near the front where I can get to them if needed. That's very good - no need to worry about all that stuff now.
For the next couple of weeks, I'll be trying to cull down our belongings - storage fees are by WEIGHT - so the more I can get rid of/donate, the better.
I must say, I have such wonderful quilty friends here. Some of them have contacted me wanting to help. So one day in the near future, we going to have a fabric folding/ packing day here. I bought some under bed storage bins so fabric can be tucked away out of site at the interim home. Have I mentioned that this home is 45 minutes outside town? You guessed it...living at the lake for the interim period of time.
Hope you have a HEXIE day!

Mushrooms and Polka Dots
Here's another curved hexie, made yesterday. I love this one!
Last night I watched 3 episodes of "Tiny House Hunting," trying to get myself psyched up for the move. We'll be moving into a SMALL home for the time being. I will not have a room devoted to sewing.
I've ordered a SEWEZ table to put in the kitchen to sew. There is an island in the kitchen that I'll use for cutting fabric. The fabric will be a challenge. I've bought some bins that will fit under the beds for this purpose - can't live without my stash! I want to keep all my hexie quilts with me, so I'll pack them in suitcases and put them...somewhere....not sure where yet. Of course I'll take my rulers with me so I can continue to ship them. EEK...I'm beginning to panic about where to fit everything.
This is what Cooper thinks about all the moving hoopla - whatever....just take me with you.

Our News...
So what's the big news? Why did we spend 5 days decluttering? And what was up with the photographer and a video drone flying around here last month?
Well, the story goes like this.
We adore our house. It's unique and cool. I mean, it even has barn doors leading to our bathroom. We love it!
BUT.
We realize we're getting tired of having stairs. The master bedroom is on the main level, but the guest rooms and my studio are all upstairs. I want my studio on the main level. I want EVERYTHING on the main level. It's hard for our parents to visit because none of them do stairs well anymore. And hubby and I aren't getting any younger - we really want to live without stairs!
And so.
There was a house a block away for sale that was perfect. Absolutely perfect. The builder wouldn't accept a contingency contract though. So we rushed and got our house on the market a month ago. We had LOTS of showings, during which time I piled the dogs in the car and found a place to park and read or sew.
Then Friday, everything happened at once. We got an offer. While we were negotiating with the potential buyers, we found out that the house we wanted to buy went under contract an hour before. UGH!!!! What to do? I'd always said that if that house sold before ours did, we'd pull our house off the market. Especially with a wedding coming up!
We had a sleepless night while we tried to decide what to do. On Saturday, morning we sat down and talked. Should we refuse the latest offer (full price) and stay put for now? Where would we go if we sold it? I wrote a personal note to the buyers which our agent passed along to them, explaining our dilemma. (Remember, we had a bridal shower at our house later this same day!)
Well, the buyers raised their offer yet again. They really want the house! And it was an offer we could not refuse. And so we're moving. We think we're going to build a home. Of course that will take months. We're meeting with a builder later this week. We have to be out of our house by the end of February. Six weeks. We can do this. We're a bit crazy, but we can do this.
So in the next six weeks, I have a magazine issue to get done. Taxes to do. And more taxes to do. And packing up our house. We will get it done!!!
Enough house talk! Tomorrow we'll talk hexies!

Another Curved Hexie!
I really like this one! So many options with the Curved Hexagon Ruler! I have piles of basted hexies ready to stitch together - there will be lots of sewing going on this week!
Today we're staying busy. Hubby and I are off to the lake for a bit - just a day trip. I'll be taking sewing along to work on while there and during the drive.
My cold is better today! Yay! The key was resting a lot yesterday and drinking lots of water. And I got a great night's sleep!
Do you remember the five LONG days we spent about a month ago decluttering our house? I'm finally ready to reveal the big WHY? But not today. Maybe tomorrow?
In the meantime, GO FORTH AND HEXIE!

Party!
Yesterday Daughter 2's first bridal shower was held at our house, hosted by one of her high school friends. What fun! With a Chemistry theme!
A Periodic Table of cookies was carefully arranged.
A yummy pudding dessert in chemical beakers.
The two daughters!
Flowers in test tubes!
Lots of presents opened!
And the bride and her bridesmaids, minus two live far away.
We had a wonderful, busy day! And today I woke up with a cold. I can't really complain though - I realized I never got sick in 2015! That's a record for me!
Hexies will be made today!!!!

T-shirts, Anyone?
Happy Friday! Do you remember this photo? I shared some quilting items I received for Christmas, including a box of custom Hexie Love t-shirts. I wore a couple of my t-shirts in my YouTube videos as well. Well....I've gotten a few requests from readers who want to buy a t-shirt.
Before I jump into this, I need a show of hands. Raise your hand (leave a comment) if you might be interested in purchasing a t-shirt. PLEASE include the size (S, M, L, XL, XXL) that you might get. THIS IS NOT A BINDING ORDER! It's basically to get an idea of how many to order and what sizes to include. I'll keep you posted on this...
And so, I've also had another request from a friend - she's going to start a Massdrop poll for my new rulers! (Color me excited!) So once that's up, I'll let you know so you can vote on the poll. Isn't this fun?
I'm hoping to stitch some hexies today. First I have to get some housework done... not my favorite. My mother has always been a house cleaning fiend - she seems to enjoy it, but I did not get that gene. It's rainy and dreary here, so I need to crank up some music and get at it!
Hope you have a great day!

Throw-Back Thursday...
I found this old photo from a few years ago when we first adopted Cooper. Ha - he and little Mickey were the same size!
So if you follow Hexie Love Open Studios, you saw that yesterday I learned something new. Daughter 2 recently purchased a sequined gown to wear to an awards ceremony (and on her honeymoon). It needed to be hemmed - 2 inches shorter. Typically, we'd send it out to an alterations specialist. But...I googled it and found some instructions that seemed doable.
I purchased $3.00 worth of satin for the facing and took the plunge yesterday. The scariest part was cutting an inch off the dress! It worked out beautifully - now all I have left is the hand stitching which I'll work on a bit every day.
I spent the rest of the day stitching hexies.
Have a great day!

Curved Hexies??????
I've had a slew of new visitors to the blog this week due to Catherine Redford's blog hop! So maybe I need to provide you newbies here a bit of an explanation? What is a curved hexie???? And what does the new Hexie Love Curved Hexagon Ruler do????
Well, we all know how expensive it is to buy hexagon paper pieces that are already cut into little pieces to cover in fabric and put back together, right? And we're always looking for new ways to make hexie quilts, right?
I thought it would be fun and really cool to put some curves in our hexagons. Let's get curvy!
And I came up with the idea for the ruler to allow quilter to cut their own curves into their papers!
So now you can play with your papers and cut hundreds of combinations of curves yourself, saving lots of money - with one ruler and a set of 2" hexagon papers, you can go to town!
The ruler is designed specifically for 2" hexagon papers. Check out my YouTube channel to see exactly how the ruler works!
The examples shown here are just the tip of the iceberg! I haven't finished stitching them together yet as you might notice. I'm using water soluble papers (available HERE), glue basting, and then machine stitching them together. I'm using this technique because I have to stay a step or two ahead of my readers and I'm always in a time crunch.
I've designed a quilt called BLISS using these curved hexagons - the ongoing pattern is published in my on-line magazine, Hexie Love. The magazine also contains interesting articles about hexie artists, fun patterns, and much, much more - and is only $5.00 per issue.
And so, hopefully if you're new here you now see what I do! And for you longtime faithful readers, thanks for sticking with this explanation!
And moving on...
For some reason, the links in the current issue of Hexie Love aren't working. I have to compress the PDF file before I publish so it won't take you eons to download and somehow in that process, the links were affected. Sorry about this! I'm going to add a new tab to the top of the blog: ERRATA. I'll try to do this later today and in it you'll find the links you need.
I'll also be drawing a winner for the Curved Hexagon Ruler later today, so stay tuned! Let's go HEXIE!

Modern Machine Quilting Blog Hop!!!
Let me introduce you to my friend, Catherine Redford. You may have seen her on Quilting Arts TV. She is certainly a jack of all trades in the quilting industry! She's a master at African Folklore embroidery, clamshells and hexies (!!!!), wool appliqué and embellishment, and machine quilting.
Catherine and I met on the set of Quilting Arts TV a few years ago when we were both filming for the first time. We bonded and have stayed in touch ever since, even rooming together when we both taught in Chattanooga a couple of years ago.
So here is Catherine's newest video, Modern Machine Quilting!
I watched the entire 87 minute video yesterday and was very impressed! If you've ever wanted to take a class on free motion quilting, just buy the video. The instruction is excellent and I know I'm going to try some of Catherine's techniques in the near future. She walks the viewer through all sorts of fun filler patterns and even unique border patterns. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Catherine will be drawing names at the end of the run for at least two DVD winners and a grand prizewinner who will receive a Stella task lamp (winner’s choice of color!) and a DVD AND one of my CURVED HEXAGON RULERS! Remember people need to comment on CATHERINE'S blog (any day) to be in with chance of winning something from her.

Basting, Basting, Basting...
I'm still basting! Fun! This time is a tone on tone black. I decided early on to add bits of black throughout my BLISS quilt. I think a bit of black give your eyes a place to rest and make the bright color shine even brighter.
Today I need to put down the fabric for a bit and do some boring paper work - my LEAST favorite part of my job... I aim to get this task over with early so the rest of the day will be fun.
Don't forget - tomorrow is my day for Catherine Redford's newest machine quilting video BLOGHOP!!!

More Fun with Fabric!
I'm adding more fun fabrics to my BLISS quilt. The computer code fabric represents Daughter 1 and her career. The music fabric represents Daughter 1's love of music. I have basted piles of hexies and plan to stitch them all together later today.
I've been having so much fun with the Curved Hexie Ruler. Every time I use it, I find a new way to cut curved hexagons. The ruler has exposed so much creativity in my soul.
Have a happy Sunday!

New Glasses!
I'm working on BLISS today!!! As I've said, I'm taking the word 'bliss' to heart. I'm using fabrics which speak to things important in my life. And so in honor of my trip to the eye doctor this week and ordering new glasses....I'm putting these fun glasses in my quilt! What fun! This fabric is Fox and the Houndstooth, design #14424, by Andie Hanna for Robert Kaufman.
I might have some new visitors today...
There's a bloghop going on for Catherine Redford's newest video! And guess what? My new Hexie Love Curved Hexagon Ruler is one of the prizes! So if you're visiting from the blogshop, welcome!
My day on the hop is in just a few days....
Have a hexie day, y'all!

It's Friday!!!
TGIF! Even Cooper is ready for the weekend! He's been napping under this big ottoman (5 feet by 5 feet) since he was a puppy and still manages to fit under there. Yesterday most of his body was hanging out! Haha!
Yesterday was a long day, starting with my eye appointment and ending after a fun neighborhood Bunco game last night. Today I'll get my hair cut and then (hopefully!) I'll be home the rest of the day. And you know what that means????? Fabric! Play! Hexies! Sewing!
Now for another question:
Do I glue baste when NOT using the water soluble papers?
NO! If I'm using traditional card stock papers I always hand baste with a needle and thread. This is still easy with the curved pieces made with the Curved Hexagon Ruler.

The EYES Have It
I'm a bit late posting today - I had an eye appointment this morning - much needed! My eyes are two of my most important tools in quilting. I need both close up and distance vision to do my work. Because of Hexie Love, I spend lots of time in front of the computer, too - writing articles, processing orders, blogging, etc. And I was in dire need of a check up!
I went to a new-to-me doctor and he was fabulous! After looking at my charts and info, he walked in and said, 'Well, you're basically blind.' Haha - yes, I have VERY BAD vision! It's not news to me. But he fixed me up with a new prescription and I ordered new glasses and frames.
Do you have problems seeing close up to sew hexies? If so, get your eyes checked regularly! And I also recommend CraftOptics glasses. No, I'm not getting paid to say this, but I do have a pair and I love them!!!
Tomorrow I'm getting my hair done...so after that and when my new glasses come in, I'm thinking I need to film another video showing the "new me" - haha! I do want to make another video to demonstrate how to use a needle and thread to baste curved hexagons. Not sure when I'll do this, but maybe this weekend we'll have time.
I've had another question pop up a couple of times:
Will I ship my Curved Hexagon Ruler overseas? The answer is YES!!! I'll ship anywhere!
Have a phenomenal day!

It's the Little Things...
I'm planning on reading more this year. That's the plan anyway. So here's the first book I'm reading this year, Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. I love it so far! I think that I'll keep a list of books ready this year so I can see how well I stick to my plan.
Today is one of those days where I have a gazillion little things to take care of. My list is a mile long - and you know I really like lists with only three things on them. I'm going to get busy early and try to mark them all off.
Happy Birthday today to our younger daughter, Elizabeth! She's busy working in a local hospital all day as part of her last year of Pharmacy School. I'm wishing her an easy day at work! The end is near, Sweet Girl: just over 9 weeks left of rotations and she'll be Dr. Wood...for four days until she becomes Dr. Covington. And our other daughter is a successful Software Engineer. I'm a lucky mom to have two wonderful daughters.
The latest issue of Hexie Love is selling well and I'm shipping out more rulers today. Yay! I'm no where close to breaking even on the ruler yet - I had to order a large minimum - so I'll have to sell many more to start making a profit- that's the way the business works, you know? I'm getting lots of questions about whether I'll come out with similar rulers that will work with other sizes of hexagons. Well, the answer is....it takes a significant cash outlay to order the minimum amount of rulers. So I'll need to make sure these current rulers sell well first. If they do, then YES! I'd love to have the rulers made in other sizes as well! I do hope to place the rulers with a distributer so they'll be in local quilt shops everywhere.
Some of you who ordered rulers immediately will begin to receive them TODAY! Please share your curved hexies on the Facebook page - Hexie Love Open Studio - and everywhere else on social media - Pinterest, Instagram, Blogs! I can use all the free publicity I can get!
And so, I need to get this computer out of my lap and GET BUSY!!! Have a great day!!

A Little Late Today...
Hello! Are you adjusting to the new year? I'm still trying to find my groove, but getting there. This morning I took my future SIL to get his wisdom teeth out - I was the designated driver. It went well and he is back resting.
I did ship out lots of Curved Hexagon Rulers yesterday! Happy Dance!
If you zoom in on the picture above, you'll see that it's Cooper in hexagons. I have lots of requests about how I do this. Because don't we all want to make a hexie quilt from our pet??!!! And so, I've decided that all the details of HOW to make your own hexie pattern from a photo will be in the next issue (Mar/Apr) of Hexie Love. That will be something to look forward to, won't it?
Hope you have a great day and get a chance to play with fabric!

A Peak at the 2016 Hexie BOM
In case you haven't gotten the newest issue of Hexie Love, here's a peak at the 2016 BOM. This is the January block. Each issue of the magazine this year will have 2 block patterns! The backgrounds are all pieced in different ways. This is called Folk Art Hexies. I love the layered hexagons!
So today Hubby is back at work after a week+ off, so it seems quiet around here. At least I still have Cooper and Mickey to keep me company! We have a busy day planned. I'm making a quick trip to the Post Office to ship Curved Hexagon Rulers. I have appointments to schedule (eye doctor and hair cut). Oh, and I need to get out and WALK if it warms up enough. And I can't forget - I'm getting out fabric to make more curved hexagons!!!!
Make it a great day!

Bliss Pattern 1
Firstly, thanks so much for all the support and love I've received in the last few days! The newest issue of Hexie Love seems to be a success! I'm getting LOTS of sweet comments and e-mails. So thankful!
And if you haven't gotten the issue yet (only $5.00!), then here's a sneak peak. Above is the pattern for the first section of Bliss. You'll have to buy the issue to see how to make each of the hexagons.
And the new Block of the Month pattern, Folk Art Hexies, is also included - two blocks worth!
And that's enough of a commercial for today!
It's been nice to slow down for a couple of days. Yesterday we FINALLY saw the sun - it's been absent all week. What a joy to have a sunny day! We took the doggies for a little walk which we all enjoyed.
This afternoon I'll be packing up ruler orders to take to the post office tomorrow. AND maybe I'll even sew!!!!!

The Calm After the Storm
Can you hear my sigh? Ahhhhh......
The new issue of Hexie Love is published. The Curved Hexagon Ruler is now available to buy. Ahh...
I've gotten a comment from someone wanting to see more of these finished curved hexagons. So here you go!
And these are just a FEW of the possibilities!
Do you have a resolution this year to use your stash more? Then Bliss is the perfect ongoing project for you. BLISS, with it's curved hexagons, is going to be so much fun to make! I hope you'll join me. Are you in?

The Shop is OPEN for Business!
Click HERE to get to my shop!
I still haven't put a link to the shop on my website yet, but I'm rather pooped. I've been up working since 6am and I have worked non-stop for a few weeks. And so I'm taking a few hours off -
In the shop you can buy the new Curved Hexie Ruler and my new 2" Water Soluble Hexagon Papers.
Let me warn you, the water soluble papers are expensive - I couldn't get the price down any lower. This is a specialty paper and is much more pricey than your average card stock. But don't worry if this paper is not in your budget - you can still use the Curved Hexie Ruler with traditional card stock hexie paper!
Happy New Year!
