The Hexie BOM: March!

Happy March! (A few hours early.) I have to leave very early in the morning so I'm posting this tonight.

Yes, many of you were correct - a shamrock, but a modern one.

Each leaf has 8 hexies for a total of 32.

When you're ready to appliqué, fold the background square diagonally into fourth. The diagonal creases will help you place your leaves.

The leaves should meet in the middle to make a four pointed start as you can see below.

Have fun with it!

Baseball Hexies

Sunday afternoon baseball game! Auburn vs. ETSU. We lost but had a great time and I got a lot done!

Are you guys ready for the March block? Can't believe it's almost MARCH! Spring is almost here! Today we had a beautiful sunny day - I know there's more cold weather to come, but I do love this warm spell.

I'll be in Prattville, AL this weekend at the Fountain City Quilt Guild show. If you're down this way, stop by to say hello.

How to Fix a Ruined Quilt

Here's a shot of my poor pitiful quilt - running purple dye. I can't even begin to tell you how much angst this caused me over the weekend. And this is what it looked like after I removed as much of the stain as I could with Oxyclean.

I was extremely lucky that this was in a corner of the center medallion design. The first border is made up of half square triangles. So I added another triangle right over the stain using appliqué. Of course I had to add a triangle to each of the four corners so it looks like it was meant to be.

There are still a couple of small dye spots in other places, but not as bad as this one. Much improved, I'd say!

And the winner is...

Jusmom1 is the winner of the Swatch Buddies! I have already been in touch with her and the prize should arrive soon!

Sorry to have been away - our internet was out for several days. I don't like to blog from my IPad, so I waited it out. I spent Valentines morning with the repairman and he finally got it going again!

It's good to be back in the saddle!

I finished my magazine project, squirted it a bit with water to remove the water soluble markings, and pinned it to my design wall to block it. That was Thursday. I didn't go up to my studio on Friday because I was downstairs with the repairman. Saturday morning I went upstairs to take down the quilt.

OH NO!!!

One half square triangle of purple. The dye had run... onto the background fabric... tears...yesterday was not a good day...

I've been working on removing the dye with a white cloth and an Oxyclean solution. It's helped a bit, but only a bit.

Plan B is to add some appliqué over the spots. Today I'll see what I can come up with. Wish me luck!!!

Young or Old: Everyone Can Hexie!

I've always said that the Quick and Easy Hexie technique - making hexies from circles - is so EASY that anyone can do it. Here's the proof.

This article was in the February, 2014, Birmingham Quilters Guild newsletter:

Below is a 91 year old woman who lives in Hawaii. She's making hexies too! She's added Sashiko to the pattern of the Farmer's Market Tote in Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts. So creative! In fact she's gotten so much interest from her unique bag that she asked my permission to teach it.

There's still time to enter the Swatch Buddies giveaway! See the previous post for the info.

Hexie Table Toppers!

For some unknown reason, yesterday's post seems to have disappeared - so weird - so here we go again!

Love this hexie table topper (pattern in Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts) made by a member of the Cotton Boll Quilt Guild here in Auburn. So vibrant!

Below is the original from the book:

These are so fun to make. No batting. No quilting. I just backed it with a piece of felt. Great way to use scraps!

Check out my other blog to see some of my older quilts.

Today I'll be machine quilting! I finished the hexie top for a magazine - yippee! Wish me luck!
