Show and Share: Strings of Beads!

Strings of Beads is one of the quilts in Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts. I was inspired by a box of Kleenex - yes, inspiration can come from ANYWHERE! I stepped out of my box color-wise on this - I would never put these colors together. But they played well together on the tissue box, so I gave it a go with great success.

This quilt is one of those fast and easy ones - and depending on the fabric and colors, would be great for men, too.

Are you counting down with me? A new block of the month pattern coming up tomorrow!

Another GFG!

Doesn't this remind you of the vintage quilt I shared last week? NitaDances sent this to me - love the fresh Spring colors! Go read more about it at her blog! You also need to check out the drool-worthy antique sewing cabinet that was passed down in her family. Thanks so much for sharing, Nita!

Grandmother's Flower Garden!

One of my friends brought this BEAUTY to share at our sewing group yesterday. What a treasure! It was given to her by her mother - can't remember who made it. I love the idea of surrounding each flower with white and then adding green paths.

Even Fritz loves it! (This is his house and he enjoyed every minute of our get together!)

I love the way the edges were finished: straight on two sides and zigzagged on the other two. I'll have to remember this!

And here's a close up of the HAND quilting - yes, all by hand! The interesting this about this quilt is that it has no batting! It is in perfect condition - WOW!

I put the last stitches in the April BOM last night. We're counting down now! Can't wait to share it in a few days...

Hexie Love Show and Share!

Show and Share Day! I know from your comments that you all love it when I show other's hexie quilts here. So here are a couple for you. Don't forget, I'd love to share YOUR quilt here! Shoot me an e-mail with the photo and the story.

This beautiful quilt was hanging at the quilt show in Prattville; it won a ribbon. I kind of think I see a couple of blocks turned in a unique way....  Not saying it's a mistake! Just saying it it's different. Love the appliqué border.

This beauty is being made by one of my friends here in Auburn. Her fabric choices give it a vintage look. She said her grown child wants a quilt before she dies and told her to get busy! How funny!

I'm going to try to do Hexie Love Show and Share days more often. Help me out and send me your pictures!

Drooling Over this Rug!

How can you not LOVE this rug?! Oh my - I want one! I spotted this on Apartment Therapy. This nursery is so adorable. The mom MADE this rug masterpiece! From thrifted wool clothing and blankets! All I can say is WOW! Her use of color is spectacular. Go HERE to read more about it.

My New Hexie Purse!

One of my good friends in Birmingham (thanks, Tammie!) alerted me to these hexie bags at TJ Maxx. I didn't know if they'd have them here in Auburn, but they did - 3 color ways. I picked the navy with a touch of green. It's big and roomy - plenty of space to pack some hexies to work on!

I've been gone this week to Augusta, GA, to stay with my Mom while she was recovering from eye surgery. On the way home yesterday, my car detoured to Intown Quilt as I drove through Atlanta. This Michael Miller fabric came home with me - won't it be perfect for a hexie quilt backing? LOVE IT!

And here's a bit of Spring that has sprung in our yard. So thankful for the warmer weather and blossoming flowers...

Can  you believe April is getting close? Do you realize we're 25% done with our 2014 Hexie BOM blocks?! Time flies when you hexie!

It's been busy around here in Hexie Land. I'm being considered to teach on a Quilting Cruise in a couple of years - fingers crossed! I've been booking speaking engagements, classes, and even a private lesson. And someone has contacted me about making multiple quilts for her family's lake house. It's going to be a fun Spring and Summer!

My Hexie Clock

Ta Dah! Doesn't everyone need a hexie clock for their studio?

I was so excited when Peggy gave me the Smycke from Ikea last year. And now I've finally gotten around to adding some of my favorite fabrics to the hexie pieces (Mod Podge!)

I love the way it turned out - I'll be hanging it on a wall today.

I'm loving all the shamrock blocks on the Yahoo group! Meanwhile, I'm working on the April block. Hmmm....what will it be? The first three months of the year were pretty easy to guess, but April? No so easy, I think.

Fountain City Quilt Show!

I had a fabulous weekend at the Fountain City Quilt Show. Many thanks to the wonderful quilters of Prattville! And many thanks to Daughter 1, who spent her precious Saturday helping me!

I loved having the 2014 BOM's hanging in a row - don't they look great together?

I met so many wonderful and inspiring quilters. Had a blast sharing how to make hexies from circles! Comments I heard:

"Wow!"
"Oh my goodness!"
"I wish I'd learned this before I made a grandmother's flower garden!"
"You've got to be kidding!"
"It's like magic!"
"That's so fast!"
"How in the world did you figure that out?"
And many quilters' jaws literally dropped! Lots of wide open mouths (in amazement!)

Here I am in my booth - not bad for having never set up a booth before, huh?

Here's the pile of hexies made by both me and Daughter 1 during demos on Saturday. The pile grew on Sunday! I may be drawing from this pile to design the April block.

If you are new to the blog (and I know many of you are!), the block of the month patterns are posted on the first of each month. I have tabs for each month's pattern at the top of the blog. I suggest you go back and read all the older posts here on the blog since the first of the year to learn all the details about fabric requirements, size of background squares, etc. It's all there!

And if you are new and want to do the free block of the month quilt, please join the Yahoo group here:
