I must have been holding the fabric with my left hand in a deathlock! So I have prescribed rest for my left hand for several days. I've had this condition before and I'll have it again. Enjoy the rest of your week!</p><p> </p>Julia Woodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15539593047999892160noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7893916114262971884.post-33024984846987733922023-01-28T13:57:00.001-08:002023-01-28T14:00:42.708-08:00A New Quilt Started... <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiOsiH2ErNIC47cb5eZ2hJ93OR7mg8iLuwF723QEQ9KyqKXIPTJ84ylD8H7K3EX5R4ZhlJjkLarwg-AZT_crC8axgPiZHfxTnlM1VHZ3KLHzIF5uuLxqUpPU_yxCW5XJ08wZ_YilRJUGR3F-mEKY-FPus_DXNg8VG8Wxf7AcP8nn9cKAd2mmzpWM0yQ9Q" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiOsiH2ErNIC47cb5eZ2hJ93OR7mg8iLuwF723QEQ9KyqKXIPTJ84ylD8H7K3EX5R4ZhlJjkLarwg-AZT_crC8axgPiZHfxTnlM1VHZ3KLHzIF5uuLxqUpPU_yxCW5XJ08wZ_YilRJUGR3F-mEKY-FPus_DXNg8VG8Wxf7AcP8nn9cKAd2mmzpWM0yQ9Q" width="180" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I guess it was inevitable, wasn't it? I've had this mystery quilt on my mind for a few months. I'd heard the Quiltmania 2023 Mystery Quilt was designed by Susan Smith of Australia. I've long been fan. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Four years ago I started the 2019 Quiltmania Mystery, Marshal, designed by Jen Kingwell. And just finished the hand quilting a few months ago. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway, this quilt is called Mathilde. I had let my Quiltmania subscription run out after 2019, so I renewed late last year in anticipation of the mystery quilt. I just got my January magazine recently and decided I was in! I'm using civil war reproduction fabrics that I have on hand, leftover from making the Courthouse Steps quilts last year. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So for the first set of instructions, I have to make 4 of these appliqued flower blocks. A good friend (thank you Carol B!) gave me a nice bunch of little pillows when I had breast cancer. Little pillows are so handy after surgery! I could put them under my arms or anywhere for more support during recovery. I still use this one while I'm riding or driving in the car, tucked in between my chest and the shoulder strap seat belt. I feel protected if the airbags were to deploy. I don't want my implants to break in an accident! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So the pillow was a lovely pink, but had faded over time. It was quick and easy to recover and give it a new look.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's amazing how much sewing I can get done in little pockets of time. I love keeping the grandchildren and it's always my first priority, but I can still find time to sew!</div><br /><br /></div><br /><br /></div><br /><br /></div><br /><br /></div><br /> <p></p>Julia Woodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15539593047999892160noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7893916114262971884.post-60080886200291196952023-01-21T09:48:00.000-08:002023-01-21T09:48:05.991-08:00Busy, Happy Life!<p> <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhrYCR3Zqyqjv4zvf9lwin6xW8lH_Terw8vkOtudDwwjzkeKbAU8ad_s9at55_8F-ZJ_qtg81AZyqprS8wU92ab_UCjRqnCt8HsR00f7u2JHb_5ewR0HbVvwimjLdkJ25MNSCP4PUT-nkwaC11bmnT3et0OhrUY4WHFNfCaFKwLE1PjBohT8f6qBjbczQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhrYCR3Zqyqjv4zvf9lwin6xW8lH_Terw8vkOtudDwwjzkeKbAU8ad_s9at55_8F-ZJ_qtg81AZyqprS8wU92ab_UCjRqnCt8HsR00f7u2JHb_5ewR0HbVvwimjLdkJ25MNSCP4PUT-nkwaC11bmnT3et0OhrUY4WHFNfCaFKwLE1PjBohT8f6qBjbczQ" width="180" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm slowly hand stitching this binding for my cheddar bow tie quilt. I've been looking for matching twin headboards for Sadie's room. I found these brass ones at our local Habitat for Humanity store and grabbed them. Once we added the bed frames (also from the Habitat store) and a piece of plywood for a base, we were all set. Hubby and I set them up and threw this quilt on Sadie's bed for now. The quilt was made by my grandmother, Sadie's great great grandmother. Eventually I'll put white bedspreads on both of them and fold a quilt at the foot of the bed. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">We also had an electrician here at the house this week. He added LOTS of new lights in my sewing room! It's so bright now! The electrician and I became buddies - I'm going to teach his wife how to use her sewing machine.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">We also had a renovation company come to look at our pantry - it desperately needs a remodel to maximize the storage. Can't wait to have that done! </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">In other sewing news, I am really feeling confident in using the new Bernina embroidery software that I purchased. I monogrammed a little top for Sadie this week. AND I embroidered a label for a quilt. I'm so glad I've learned to do this. Hubby wants me to put his name on his golf bag, so that will happen in the near future. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">And that's the update for now. Some neighbors have invited us over for dinner tonight, so that will be fun. And we have plans to meet other friends for dinner later this week. We stay so busy and we love it!</div></div><br /><br /></div></div><br /><br /></div><p></p>Julia Woodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15539593047999892160noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7893916114262971884.post-77739229334053952202023-01-11T08:47:00.001-08:002023-01-11T08:47:29.829-08:00All Blacks Are Not the Same!<p> <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhouPFg80ectg_Zm-shmEGKRLZOtKrCvPbNa00d12ROu91CB7SPRYp-H9EY_c77b3zXDi4fSF2_7aXL4gwaFbRrRUiCobwGn29bo_0-fBvzW7heX3tEhZiUapFA0OPapp-XIjg5KxtjarqPB7jt7XexQ7nuGGFelHkDFpes2CsLIUvMpfE7sTSaMs52UQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhouPFg80ectg_Zm-shmEGKRLZOtKrCvPbNa00d12ROu91CB7SPRYp-H9EY_c77b3zXDi4fSF2_7aXL4gwaFbRrRUiCobwGn29bo_0-fBvzW7heX3tEhZiUapFA0OPapp-XIjg5KxtjarqPB7jt7XexQ7nuGGFelHkDFpes2CsLIUvMpfE7sTSaMs52UQ=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When I put away a UFO, there is usually a reason. It all fit in a plastic bin. Yay!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg2tZ1wfv_RqypLcCNy6mqpKrHUgP-dCq2DVp0-hest0CNtpiG9UL-tNdyY37VV684Gz5G8YThYsc7pwVSM1gQPejzZOV-Vv6ih2dXOMy1ZTApOcKjdp-w0YfKKjzxvMGnKn8yW6yoayiS-ZCfE1maAsc-r13lyRXwcCdnr22Mbns7NWNltN9BnKPa9DA" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg2tZ1wfv_RqypLcCNy6mqpKrHUgP-dCq2DVp0-hest0CNtpiG9UL-tNdyY37VV684Gz5G8YThYsc7pwVSM1gQPejzZOV-Vv6ih2dXOMy1ZTApOcKjdp-w0YfKKjzxvMGnKn8yW6yoayiS-ZCfE1maAsc-r13lyRXwcCdnr22Mbns7NWNltN9BnKPa9DA=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Then I started thinking about what else I could take to the retreat. What should I sew? I remember how much I enjoyed hand quilting my Marshal quilt. Maybe I'd pin baste a quilt top? I have quite a few at the ready. I finished my Marshal quilt Saturday while watching football. I hand quilted all day long. And when late afternoon arrived...I put in the last stitch. I adore this quilt. This is the quilt I began 4 years ago, soon after my mastectomy. I wasn't able to sit at my machine and sew for a few months. But as soon as I started feeling better, this block of the month pattern came out in Quiltmania magazine, designed by Jen Kingwell. Hand piecing worked great for this and that's all I could do at the time. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I had some Tula Pink fabric and decided to use it. It worked. You know how when you sew something special? How you later remember what you were watching on TV or whatever was going on with your life? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">That's how this quilt is for me. This quilt got me through my breast cancer journey. I remember sitting on the sofa at the lake house (the same sofa where I slept for months after my surgery), tracing my homemade templates, cutting fabric out one piece at a time, and carefully hand piecing the little bits together. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's truly a milestone to finish it finally. I like to get a jump start on the week by making a dish that will feed us for at least two evening meals. Sadie is picked up at 5 pm most days, so I like to make evening meals during the week quick to prepare. This week it's a pizza casserole...noodles, spaghetti sauce, sausage, pepperoni, and cheese. Easy peasy!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Other meals this week will include hot ham and cheese sliders with potato salad and grilled chicken with a vegetable and tossed salad. All are yummy, but fast and easy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Are you as flabbergasted as I am over the grocery prices???? A tube of toothpaste was $7.47 yesterday! I was going to buy some bagels, but they were $6.00 for six bagels and I passed. And the bread I like is $6.99 a loaf!!! Maybe I should start making my own bread? And bagels? I just might....stay tuned....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">You may remember that I recently had an ophthalmologist appointment. My vision, particularly in my right eye, is quite blurry. Well...I didn't get great news. I was diagnosed with Macular Puckers, also known as Macular Wrinkles. The puckers are on the backside of my eyeball. I have it in both eyes, but it's worse in the right. At this point there is nothing that can be done. It's very bothersome. I find it difficult to read a book or menu. (Good thing I listen to books on Audible now.) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As for sewing....I can see well enough to machine sew. Hand sewing something tedious (like tiny cross stitch) is very hard. In fact, I haven't pick up my Anniversaries of the Heart piece since before our move. I do hope to get back to it eventually. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I did read that if the condition worsens, there is a surgery that can be done. So I don't know if I should hope it worsens? Or hope it stabilizes? It bothers me the most in the evenings, but I'm aware of it all day long. Such a nuisance, but I'll keep sewing. I will say that big stitch hand quilting is something that I can easily see to do! So I'll be finishing more quilts like this. The needlepoint is okay for me to see, as long as the mesh is big enough. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">That's all from here! Have a great week!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div></div><br /><br /></div><br /><br /></div><br /> <p></p>Julia Woodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15539593047999892160noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7893916114262971884.post-76684434323305110272022-11-01T05:51:00.002-07:002022-11-01T05:51:31.188-07:00What I'm Working On....<p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhYgKLi9cSfC3pxvqtaQv_c1X4lUGLQZXU-dt9Mi0EdswxSR9WW4oX7oTZLDRebbqH418rflsZyxkGfLvHGQDgQsaPzHtkphvLTOqUuubej4fWJcXtytlYu6IgCqUVwDB0NU-BUm7UsKA2n_Tvbl3Gvpwhevt9BbQ3Ug7GbFjc3fpo4zxXkC2AI3cNfCQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhYgKLi9cSfC3pxvqtaQv_c1X4lUGLQZXU-dt9Mi0EdswxSR9WW4oX7oTZLDRebbqH418rflsZyxkGfLvHGQDgQsaPzHtkphvLTOqUuubej4fWJcXtytlYu6IgCqUVwDB0NU-BUm7UsKA2n_Tvbl3Gvpwhevt9BbQ3Ug7GbFjc3fpo4zxXkC2AI3cNfCQ=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here's my Marshal quilt - my college-football-watching project. I have found a new makeup line that I ADORE! I had given up on foundation - haven't worn it in years. They were always too much coverage or too little.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I finally found one that is 'just right'! This is by <a href="https://jonesroadbeauty.com/" target="_blank">Jones Road</a>, developed by Bobbie Brown. I ordered online after taking their quiz to pick out my shade. My shade is Porcelain. When I opened it I immediately thought it would be too dark, but it's absolutely perfect! I bought several of the products and love them all. I've been wanting to take these classes for over a year. They are only taught a few times per year and something always interferes. So excited I can go! I have it packed and ready to go to Montgomery.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Thursday I have a much anticipated Ophthalmologist appointment. So glad that is over!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgNTPoAtWH80ewtrX6NJPg0Pkpr3UJ-KH9pSHCpSpux8MuJOzbohxN0bdkpUR4QuJiOFfVVQszR3G3iqaIZb3DEtJDSOROfnk0yEZ8_FoeWwv0texm3Ru4gyBSGrIw2O73WkL2GwL46nmDKr4vjdlz4SzK-v6GUJx80vyeHaPllKijiMcSPHEM5I4vvXA" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgNTPoAtWH80ewtrX6NJPg0Pkpr3UJ-KH9pSHCpSpux8MuJOzbohxN0bdkpUR4QuJiOFfVVQszR3G3iqaIZb3DEtJDSOROfnk0yEZ8_FoeWwv0texm3Ru4gyBSGrIw2O73WkL2GwL46nmDKr4vjdlz4SzK-v6GUJx80vyeHaPllKijiMcSPHEM5I4vvXA=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here's what the doggos thought about the entire process. I walked 12,000 steps that day without going anywhere.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The move is not officially over yet. We still have a storage unit full of stuff that we'll gradually move over here to the new home. Plus our golf cart and some outdoor furniture are still at the old home. The outdoor furniture will get moved to the lake and we'll bring the golf cart here to the new home. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We've done lots of unpacking, but there is more to go. Today's focus for me will be the laundry room. I'll work on this while Sadie is in preschool. As far as my sewing room....I've haven't started setting it up yet. There are boxes and totes everywhere there! I've ordered some shelving to store plastic totes and it should be in later this week. By then I'll be ready to focus my attention there. I really want to get the rest of the house set up first.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">BUT, I have picked up my hand stitching! It was a fun time for our family and we all really enjoyed it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And then it was back to packing! We have three more days to prepare for the big move on Thursday. We're right on schedule, maybe a bit ahead even. We've taken carloads of small things every day and put them away in the new home. By the move day, my new kitchen will be set up and ready to go - almost all my dishes, cookware, etc., are already there and put away. There are two beds there already (purchased with home) and they are both made with fresh linens.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I really think we're going to LOVE out new neighborhood. Some of the women have already reached out to me, though we haven't met in person yet. I've been invited to two events by the ladies there so far and will attend one tomorrow night. We are so excited and can't wait to have all out things there and slowly unpack. SLOWLY! We are tired of the rush. We are just plain tired. But all is going well and I'm sure this week will pass quickly.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">That's my update for now. I'll be back to sewing VERY SOON, I'm sure. A painter is starting today to paint the rooms upstairs and do some touch up work throughout the house. We already have a few TV's there. Internet is up and running. This is the EASIEST move we've ever had. And that is good. Local moves from one house, straight to another, are pretty easy.</p><p>I'll get back to sewing very soon, I'm sure. Handiest tote bag ever! These would be great to keep in the car for muddy shoes. When dirty, you only need to hose them out. So easy to make - I'll be making lots more of these, I know.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiI3OVp7s0L9Hd5WBqppQFHsLuybzKEV24QzuSbtAo2G-7kDVQS4o7f207a74hmCX6-yLkcRGcy609f5eVWLZHxdt8ye2HzuoyJ2bb_W6WCQ4cziN7Wc1aSNTz3F6bYwqVrA93x1k9H26tgy2kY8ludMW9BJPjKlhkTRAm4mkx287vKqPgOHC3B6tmfSg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiI3OVp7s0L9Hd5WBqppQFHsLuybzKEV24QzuSbtAo2G-7kDVQS4o7f207a74hmCX6-yLkcRGcy609f5eVWLZHxdt8ye2HzuoyJ2bb_W6WCQ4cziN7Wc1aSNTz3F6bYwqVrA93x1k9H26tgy2kY8ludMW9BJPjKlhkTRAm4mkx287vKqPgOHC3B6tmfSg=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We went to lake for a long weekend. Our current home was listed late last week and we wanted to leave it clean and get away for a few days. Hubby spent a good bit of time while at the lake doing yard work. I spent lots of time doing marathon sewing! My deadline for making these baby quilts for our new grandson is quickly approaching! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm happy to report that while at the lake I knocked out one baby quilt top completely...start to finish! It didn't turn out like I had planned because I had cut some pieces incorrectly, but I persevered and came up with my own design to fit the pieces I had. BOOM!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I also finished the eye spy baby quilt (see above) except for borders. I won't show picture of either of these quilt tops until they are gifted. Yesterday I ran by a quilt shop and found the perfect border fabric for the eye spy quilt. This morning I'll try to get the borders on while Sadie is at preschool.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you have been keeping up with my baby quilts, then you know there is one more to complete. I'll cut more pieces for it this morning and should have it finished before the week is over. I had planned to quilt these myself, but that's not happening with our upcoming move. And so, I'll have a friend take care of that for me. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The project that is lagging behind is my cross stitch. The August block will not be complete in August. Oh well, maybe I can catch up eventually. Not the end of the world if I can't!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Be happy!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><p></p>Julia Woodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15539593047999892160noreply@blogger.com1
