Storms and Stitching!

Yesterday was one of those stay-on-your-toes weather days. We had two or three bands of storms that came though. I began the day by cutting and pressing some bias strips for The Rowdy Flat Library Quilt - I knew if the power went out this would halt the project!

We were very lucky - no damage around here. Though lots of homes were destroyed throughout Alabama and Georgia. We have good weather men and women around here who kept us well informed. But I still miss James Spann from Birmingham - THE best weatherman.

So this is the result of my entire day of hand stitching! Those bias strips became the stems in the flower pots in the corners. They are completely appliquéd in place. The flower pots and round flowers are simply basted, but ready to appliqué. And do you see those little green blobs on either side of the bows? Those are butterfly bodies - basted in place. A productive day!

Yesterday was also Hubby's birthday. I had asked him last week what he wanted to eat on his special day. Dinner out? Fancy restaurant? No! He was very specific. He wanted a salad topped with grilled salmon with gorgonzola cheese, almonds, and raspberry vinaigrette. And so I made it happen. We were lucky to have a brief lull in the rain around dinner time so we could grill the salmon outside.

And for dessert he asked for a strawberry pie. Boom! I don't even remember when I last made a strawberry pie - maybe when I was a teenager? It turned out perfectly! I used sugar free jello and I decreased the granulated sugar. Also I served it with fat free Cool Whip. All these changes lightened up the calorie count. I made sure to plan my meals well so that I could allow for a piece of that pie! And it was SO GOOD!

Do you know what today is? It's the first day of The Masters golf tournament! This is the first time ever Hubby has been able to stay home and watch the entire thing LIVE. And he is very excited! He's up and dressed (in official Masters gear) and parked in front of the TV. He's been looking forward to this week for months. The only breaks he'll take will be to run over the the golf course to hit balls himself.

Wishing you a happy day!

  1. My prayers go out to those families in Alabama and Georgia. The block is fabulous! So is dinner. Happy Birthday to your DH.
