Quanky

So by now you have probably heard of this new word - hangry - meaning explained above.

I have decided to invent my own new word: QUANKY, meaning is irritable as a result of lack of quilting.  I've been quanky lately - until yesterday I had not sewn in a few days!

But I finally got back at it and have this block almost done - just need the vase section and stems.

Hubby and I have had a very social weekend. We went out to dinner Friday night with some neighbors - we went to a new Italian restaurant and it was so good. Veal Piccata for me was delicious!

Saturday night we attended our neighborhood Mardi Gras dinner. Jambalaya, Red Beans and Dirty Rice, chicken, vegetables, salad, garlic bread, King cake, cheesecake were served along with lots of beads and masks to go around. Another fun and social evening. We have become quite the social butterflies as of late. Haha!

And this is the paint-by-nunbers kit I'm working on. Do you think I'll ever finish it? I hope so because I've already ordered another one!!!!

Enjoy your day!

Paint By Number

Okay....a non-quilting post. Did you do paint-by-numbers as a kid? I loved them!

Is it weird that I have done original watercolors, but still want to paint by numbers? Then call me weird! I got this kit and it's definitely not the kind I did when I was young. This kit is VERY detailed and elaborate. Love me a challenge!

Here's another shot so you can see the size and detail. By golly, that's a LOT OF spaces to fill in! But I see it as hours of relaxing, peaceful enjoyment.

Any guesses on what the picture is????

Carolina Lily

I made a start on the next Bring Me Flowers block - this is a fun one, isn't it? I hope to finish a couple more of these today and be ready to put the block together.

We are puppy sitting our grand-dog, Sammy, today. He was neutered last week and needs to be watched so he doesn't lick his incision. Cooper loves having him here! (FYI, Cooper is on the left in the photo.) Yes, Cooper shared his bone...

Enjoy your day!

On Ringo Lake - Christmas Version

I know I said I would not sew anymore on this quilt until retreat, but I decided to make one block and to decide on the layout. This way I can just sew at retreat and not make any decisions there - haha!

I decided to use a plain sashing for this quilt and save Bonnie's sashing pieces for the border. So I went ahead and cut all the sashing pieces out of this fabric so they'll be ready. I've packed all these pieces back up, ready for retreat.

I want to do the same for the other On Ringo Lake quilt pieces - figure out the layout and make one block.

It's rainy today - blah! - so a good day to hand stitch and maybe watch a movie. Have a good one!

Spiderweb and Scraps

I decided to pull out the spiderweb quilt yesterday - I made 14 of these half blocks. I laid these two out so you can see how they will be sewn in pairs. The quilt calls for 50 half blocks and I now have made 41 - only 9 more to go! Yay!

And here's a fresh look at the scrappy quilt; it's really growing! Every day I try to cut a few more pieces for this so I won't ever run out of pieces. My goal is simple to make a chunk for this daily - a chunk consist of several fabric pieces that I hand piece together. Then I hand stitch it to the mother ship. Some chunks may only have 4 pieces - some may have 12. It's growing faster than I expected so that is good!

I know some of you wonder...why the heck don't I just sew this by machine???!!!! Well, I could easily do that. But I do love hand piecing, and I love to do this while I watch TV.  I think if I were doing this by machine it would be as big by now. My new lap desk is awesome for this!!!!

I was a big winner last night at my neighborhood women's club meeting. I won a HUGE Valentine basket!

Here's what was inside:

There is candy, cookies, wine and wine glasses, mug and towel, valentine cards, headache pillow, cute pad and pen set, and a mani/pedi certificate. WOW!

I won a door prize at quilt guild recently and now this. I think I need to cross the Georgia line (only 20 minutes away) and buy a lottery ticket! What do you think?

Enjoy your day!

Bring Me Flowers

Ah yes, another Bring Me Flowers block finished. Yesterday I made the templates for the next two blocks and have the fabric ready to go for the next one. By hook or by crook, I'll finish this quilt top this year!

I also made another 'chunk' for my scrappy quilt - I'll share it tomorrow.

I'm in the mood to machine sew today --- hmmm, wonder what quilt I'll pull out of a box? We'll see... I have a quilt basted and ready to quilt, then there's the spiderweb quilt and the Christmas Animals. I'll figure it out....

Happy Monday!

Sewing and Sewing and Sewing

Okay, there's also been a bit of reading thrown in with the sewing. I'm not sure why I've never read this book before - as you can see my new lap desk works well for reading, too.

Thanks to a dear reader, I've learned I like my 'thumb' cutter better on my index finger. It's much easier for me this way.

I been machine sewing on things I can't share here...of course....

But I've also done a good bit of hand piecing and will have something to show for that tomorrow.

We went out for dinner with friends at a new restaurant just out of town Friday night. This was the coconut cake Hubby and I shared for dessert - it was well worth the splurge! We took a few bites before I remember to snap the photo. This was the best meal we've eaten out in a long time. Yes, this restaurant will definitely make it - for my Auburn/Opelika friends who read my blog - it's The Waverly Local - SO GOOD!

That's it for today - hopefully I'll have some actual sewing to share tomorrow!
