Houston: Part 4 - More Hexie Quilts

Hope you enjoy seeing more hexie quilts from the Houston International Quilt Festival! And this is not all - I have a few more hexie photos to share.

Today I'm hoping to get my LAST licenses for Hexie Love! I tried to do this the week before my Houston trip only to be told I need to bring a copy of our home deed. Of course I didn't have that with me - but I've got it handy now. The reason they need a copy of our deed is because I'm running the business from our home. I have to take the deed to the Planning Department for the city, then I have to take more paperwork to City Hall. A few more fees to pay…and then I'll be all set! Yay! I never knew it was so complicated to start a business.

My ears are still a mess - I'll probably need another doctor visit to get more meds. But today is too busy. I've gotten a fun quilty luncheon. And a mini photo shoot for Hexie Love. The first issue is coming together very nicely!

Houston: Part 3 - Hexagon Quilts

I was definitely a woman on a mission amongst the 1200 quilts at the Houston show - to find hexagons!

Here are some of the hexie quilts I saw. For most quilts, I take a full shot, then a close up, then a picture of the information.

Houston: Part 2 - The Red and White Quilts

This year's Quilt Festival marked it's 40th year - the Ruby Jubilee. In honor of the occasion, there was a spectacular display of red and white quilts hanging front and center, akin to the display of red and white quilts displayed in New York City a few years ago.

It was absolutely breathtaking to see this, walk under and around it! WOW!  Stupendous!!!!

Fun facts:  Did you know that the Houston International Quilt Festival covers the equivalent of 6 football fields? And more than 60,000 people attended this year?  No wonder I caught a cold - :)

I did go to the doctor yesterday and got some medicine for my two infected ears - nothing like some good prescriptions!

Houston: Part 1-What I Bought

If you follow Hexie Love on Facebook, then you know I came home from Houston with a nasty cold. That's okay - it was well worth it.  The International Quilt Festival in Houston is ALWAYS a great experience. I debated with myself this year whether to go to Market or Festival. I could make a case for either, but didn't want to be gone the 10-12 days it would take to attend both. In the end, Festival is what I chose. And I'm glad!

With more than 1200 quilts to view and more than 1000 vendor booths to visit, there was no time to waste. It took me every bit of 3 days to see everything I wanted to see. I went with a shopping list! And found everything on my list!

At the top of the list was some of the new Kaffee Fassett fabric. Check - two big bundles!

My new favorite thread in these three colors was on the list. Check - all three purchased!

Two yards of lovely linen - check!

Three yards of flowy rayon batik - check!

A new thimble. Okay, this was not on my list, but I love thimbles and thought I'd give this one a try.

Then I found more Kaffee Fassett fabric that I had to have.

And I bought some beautiful wool selvages - yummy colors!

I did buy a few more patterns for gifts I hope to make (so I can't show them yet).

My packing tip for Houston: I always pack a collapsed, empty duffle bag in my suitcase. Before I leave Houston, I fill it with my loot and use it as my carry on bag.

I learned so much! I even learned a new way to make hexies - can you believe that? You'll have to wait for Hexie Love to learn about that…

And the inspiration: WOW! I came home with my mind spinning with hexagons and ideas!

2014 November BOM: Pumpkin!

November means Thanksgiving here in the states, and we like to enjoy a big slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream after our big meal.

I love this time of year!

This early BOM is my gift to you while I'm gone to the International Quilt Festival. I won't be home until Sunday evening. You'll find me on Facebook though, posting photos when I can.

Hubby's holding down the fort here, keeping the dogs out of trouble (I hope).

Introducing…Happy Days!

Happy Days is another quilt pattern in MORE Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts. (That's my orange and white Ikea rug under it.) I love, love, LOVED making this one - it made me happy, hence the name.

Lots on hand quilting with Perle Cotton everywhere!

And the center circles are surrounded with some lovely gathered rick rack. I love the various gray backgrounds - a background fabric doesn't have to be white!!!

Here are some shots of our weekend:

Hubby and I took Cooper for a LONG walk around campus Saturday morning. He was pretty good, but he just about did us in when the tried to join in a pick up football game with some young boys. We somehow managed to keep him in control.

The day was beautiful and the sky was a brilliant blue.

In the evening we were back on campus (without Cooper) for the football game. Beautiful sunset!

I spent Sunday suffering from allergies from being outside all day the day before. Bummer! Back on track today, working on the November BOM. Where has October gone?!!!!

I'll be leaving REALLY early on Wednesday for the International Quilt Festival in Houston. Yippee! I'll be searching for everything HEXIE while there - quilts, products, patterns - stay tuned!!!!!

Hmmm…I'll still be gone on Nov. 1….how about I post the November BOM a bit early? That okay with everyone?

More of Toomer's Oaks!

Wow! What a response! You wanted to see more of this quilt! Lucky for me it was in the first box I opened.

This quilt is dedicated to the massive oaks trees on the campus of Auburn University which were poisoned, died, and had to be removed. Miss those trees!

I dug into my stash for this quilt - don't you love a stash buster?
