The HEXIE BOM: June!

How about a sweet flower for June? Our yard is full of all kinds of blooms. Look closely and you'll see a cute ladybug in the center of my flower. When I was growing up I loved ladybugs. I named them all "Susan." Who knows why?

What color will your flower be? I added some purple to mine, mainly because I thought my quilt needed a bit of purple!

As I hinted last week, I've been working on my sashing. I'm using half square triangle units that measure 3 1/2" square (finish at 3").  So now HALF my quilt top is done!

Not a great picture, but you get the idea. Now is a great time to decide on your sashing! There's nothing worse than ending a year with a stack of blocks that sit around your sewing room for months. If you do a bit a sashing as you go along, at the end of the year you'll have a finished quilt top, not just some blocks. So get busy! And share what you're doing!

Other sashing ideas:
-3 1/2" squares
-3 1/2" x 15 1/2" strips with 3 1/2" squares for the cornerstones.
-Flying geese, anyone?

Can't wait to see these quilts come together!

  2. Lovely flower. For some reason, I makes me think of a thistle. Maybe because of the purple!? Anyway, it is very lovely. Your quilt is coming along great. Love the sashing.

  3. Just finished my May motif and along comes June! Was going to take awhile to start up again, but that border inspired me - put some perspective to what these blocks will look like when joined!!! Now my enthusiasm is on fire again! Thanks for posting the sashing ideas. -NJMayes

  4. That's a good idea! That happens to me too often, and then the thrill of starting something new leaves them lost in the stash. I invite you to link to Hexie Weekend and share your idea. Love your flower for this month - very appropriate.

  7. The half finished quilt looks lovely! I'd slightly got distracted from the BOM having completed the first 4 blocks but seeing this has given me the boost to get back into it again. So I've just added a new post about it on my blog http://raysplacedesigns.blogspot.co.uk/ and I've made my hexies ready to start the May block.
