Log Cabin Hexie!
Isn't this unique? This eye-catching log cabin hexie is by Sandi Suggs of Chattanooga, TN. I love the color combination and the contrast between the "logs." Sandi is definitely a HEXIE LOVER! I'll be sharing more of her work, so stay tuned!

Gerda's Hexies!
Gerda sent me a picture of her fresh hexie quilt - reminds me of sherbet! Yum!
Gerda is a good friend from the Birmingham Quilters Guild. She used our new hexie technique (from our upcoming book) to make these. She doesn't have a picture of the finished quilt, but I saw it - beautiful!
Thanks for sharing, Gerda!
FYI, I realized this afternoon that the e-mail link on the sidebar wasn't working. All fixed now! So if you have a hexie quilt, sent me a photo. I'd love to share it here!

Colorful Hexie Diamonds
I'm so excited to share another blogger's work-in-progress. Her name is Katherine Kelly-Ballinger and her blog is kellygirlquilts.blogspot.com. What a FABULOUS hexie design. This is the ultimate scrap project - wouldn't you agree? And the black and white borders set the quilt off so nicely. I can't wait to follow the progress of this one!
Do you have a hexie project to share? Contact us! E-mail address on sidebar.

Mini Quilt with Hexies
The following post is from my co-author, Peggy G. Rhodes!
Looking for the perfect special occasion gift? My good friend, Virginia Bonham, gave me one of the Ackfeld Table Stands for Quilts for my Birthday along with a November themed mini-quilt. Each month on the day of my birthday (6th) she gives me a new quilt for the next month. Of course, May had to be flowers and you can imagine my delight when I saw the great hexie flowers with yellow button centers. Since we submitted our book manuscript about Hexies during May, this quilt will always have a special place in my heart. It is truly wonderful to be remembered in such a nice way each month. ----Peggy

An Etsy Find
Isn't this lovely? You can find it for sale HERE! The maker says it is 32" square and the hexies are only 3/4"! TINY!
I see so many different edge finishes on hexies quilts; this one is squared off with that wonderful bias cut striped binding - LOVE IT!

Quilt Pro - Designing Quilts on a Mac
While Peggy and I were working on hexie quilt designs for the book I got really tired of coloring on hexagon graph paper. I have a Mac computer, and most quilt design software (including EQ) doesn't come in a version for Mac's.
I discovered Quilt-Pro. It works for Mac's and has the ability to design hexie quilts! Yay!
Here's a design I came up with that was not included in the book - but I still love it! So graphic, yet simple. I can see the green hexes done in a variety of color, even scrappy! It would also make a great border design for a quilt. Or how about a tote bag? Lots of possibilities here!

Grandmother's Flower Garden
Who doesn't love a traditional Grandmother's Flower Garden?! I love those side borders with a zig zag row of pink, white, and green. That's the maker, Ozell Womack from Woodville, AL. Peggy and I owe so much to her! You'll learn more about that in the book, I promise. But for now, just enjoy her quilt!

Welcome to The Hexie Blog!
You heard it here first! Our upcoming book (to be published by the American Quilter's Society) is all about the wonderful hexagon. We prefer to call them hexies. We LOVE hexes! We love them little, big, solid or print, modern and traditional! We are obsessed with hexies! And we know many of you are, too!
Who are we? Dr. Peggy G. Rhodes (standing) and Julia C. Wood (most people call me Judy). We met in our local quilt guild - the Birmingham Quilters Guild. I (Julia/Judy) will be handling this blog, though I'm sure Peggy will be dropping in here and there.
We decided to team up for this book last year; we've had a blast designing and making hexie quilts, most of them with a modern twist.
We make our hexies differently than most quilters; but we are not allowed to share our technique until the book comes out. Stay tuned! I know you'll find it to be the fastest and easiest way to make hexies that you've ever tried!
We continue to be amazed at all the fun designs that can be made with hexies. Have you made a hexie quilt? We'd love to share it here! Send us an e-mail with a picture and some info about your quilt. Did you design it yourself? We want to hear all about it!
We want this to be your go-to site for hexie inspiration!
Sending us a picture automatically gives us permission to publish it here on the blog, so please don't send a picture of someone else's quilt.
Won't it be fun to have a show and tell "Hexie" style? Let's get started! If you have a hexie quilt to share, e-mail us!
