The Hexagon Blog and Facebook Hop: Catherine Redford!
The hop continues! Today it's Catherine Redford!
Catherine lives just outside of Chicago. We became fast friends a couple of years ago when she and I were both filming episodes of Quilting Arts TV. She's an expert at so many quilty things from making bowls from scraps, African Folklore Embroidery, and yes, HEXIES! In fact, she's featured in a article in the first issue of Hexie Love. Here she is with her prize winning little hexie quilt - she won a first place ribbon in the inaugural Quilt Con!
As a reminder, Hexie Love comes out every other month. Two issues have been released and I'm working on the third now - it's going to be another great issue!

The Blog Hop is Starting: Bonnie Hunter!
Welcome to the Hexagon Blog and Facebook Hop! We start with the infamous Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville. Of course she is the queen of scrappy piecing, but she also makes hexies! And she's graciously agreed to start off the HOP!
If you are new here, let me tell you a bit about myself. I am a former engineer and took up quilting after I stopped working to stay home with our two daughters. The daughters are now grown and I live with my husband and our three dogs in Auburn, AL. Several years ago my obsession with hexies began!
Two hexie books later, I decided to start a hexie digital magazine. I spent most of last year laying the groundwork - you know....incorporation, LOTS of business licenses, a logo, new software, and an accountant. The first issue of Hexie Love came out in January of this year. And I'm having a blast with it!
I am working with lots of famous hexie quilt artists who are writing fabulous articles. There are scrappy hexie patterns, book reviews, small projects and so much more.
Price: $5.99 for one issue. $26.99 for a one year subscription (6 issues).
I hope you keep hopping along with us! Here's the schedule:

Happy Easter!
I hope you all have had a lovely Easter weekend! We certainly did! My husband's birthday fell on Easter this year, so we've had a double celebration. Yesterday we took took a long drive through Opelika, AL to see the azalea and dogwood trail. The city had signs pointing the way. We saw areas we'd never been in before and the flowers were gorgeous.
Today we spent a good bit of time on our back patio. This afternoon I took all sorts of quilty things outside and hubby photographed them for me. You'll see many of the photos in the next Hexie Love issue. (And one is above!)
One of hubby's presents was this bench for the back yard. It came in Friday - perfect timing!
And yes, there was birthday cake - triple layer strawberry with strawberry buttercream frosting. Yum!
The blog and Facebook hop starts tomorrow! With BONNIE HUNTER! I keep pinching myself! I'll provide a reminder of the schedule and links in the morning.

Friday Night Baseball!
Last night we had a date night! We grabbed a quick dinner (fresh vegetables at a local restaurant) and headed to the ballpark. Auburn vs. Arkansas.
I have to admit that I am a fair weathered fan. I don't like to be a spectator if it's raining, too hot, or too cold. (Hubby will tolerate ANY weather for ANY sport.) Last night was perfect! 73 degrees F. Ahhhhh.....
Hubby was surprised I didn't take along hexies to baste. I need to take my own advice and have some packed and ready. But it was good to just relax and enjoy the game. And the conversation going on behind me - some young alums. I think they might be in grad school. Between the game and the eavesdropping (we call it "dipping" in the South), I was quite entertained!
Do you have a nice Easter planned? We're having a quite one, but it will be nice. Hubby's birthday falls on Easter this year. I heard someone is making him a cake. And I have a couple of surprises planned.
We may take a quick trip to the lake at some point and let Cooper swim. And if I can find some time, I'll be working on the next issue of Hexie Love.

Vintage Quilt Finds!
WOW! I had so many blog visitors yesterday! I'm always popular on the first of the month when I drop a new BOM pattern -
I finished the project I've been working on (to be shown in the next issue of Hexie Love) yesterday morning. It's time to start laying out and designing the next issue! BUT....it was a beautiful day, actually HOT at 82 degrees F, and I felt like I deserved to get out of the house for a bit. I headed to Opelika to a local antique mall. What was I looking for? Anything quilty, of course! And anything that would be a good piece for styling photographs for the magazine. I found lots of good stuff that came home with me.
This is a vintage table topper. So pretty and I love the colors.
Vintage quilt blocks! This is a set of 6 blocks...
and another set of six blocks. These are all 30's fabrics (not reproductions). I'm not sure what I'll do with them yet, but I've got a few ideas brewing.
My favorite find was the hexagon basket with a lid - is that not adorable?! I also came home with a piece of cutter quilt and a vintage scissor box. It was a great shopping day!
Today I'll work on the magazine pages - always a fun and creative activity.
